Sensei Unel Wellington visits Barmouth on 19th/20th April 2008
" A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER"
The Incredible "Shaft"
Sensei Unel Wellington 7th Dan, Founder of The Ken Bu Kan and the Welsh Karate Association and the representative in Wales of the Japanese Karate Association visits the Doragon Karate Club for a weekend of training at Barmouth.
This is the first visit from the' mentor' of our Club since being accepted as members of the Welsh Karate Association early last year, and Sensei Unel promised "This is just the first of many visits and associations between ourselves, here's to "Karate" at it's best."
Sensei Unel Wellington and his wife Debbie travelled all the way from Swansea to Barmouth in order to provide a weekend of training to all the students of the Doragon Karate Club. At the end of the weekend the question was " When is it going to happen again" Such was the feeling and inspiration of Sensei Wellington's unique style, that all of the students whatever their grade were asking for more of his training . Mixed with fun, laughter and of course the more serious side of Karate. His special style centered around the thoughts of Karate from within the mind. The students were well aware that there was more to "Karate" than they first imagined." Sensei please give us more ". was the plea at the end of the day.
"First of all let's see what you are made of ? " asks Sensei Unel "I need to see discipline, committment and knowledge" he demands
The younger students get their enjoyment when they topple Sensei Unel and wrestle him to the ground and tickle him until his ribs ache.
Sensei Unel's special style not only made" Karate" fun for the younger students but also for the spectators and supporters. Even the wives enjoyed it.
Nest and Kath, two of our more experienced{in age that is}students after they had changed. They were obviously relieved that Sensei Unel's training session had ended without them being captured or singled out for special attention. The relief is so obvious in their faces, but just beware girls; that next time you may be the subject of Unel's special attention.
Sensei Unel makes "Karate" fun for the junior students, demonstrating moves and techniques in a way that captured their attention for the whole of the morning sessions. With the aid of his senior students he demonstrated some moves and throws that the younger students had not seen before.
"but also I need to see enjoyment".................

"Anything you can do I can do better "! Sensei Unel demostrates that it is not just the young black belts that can kick and reach the spot. 7th dans can do it better.
The weekends training ended with two students taking their Gradings for their black belts. Sensei Unel and Petros watched with interest as Antonia Roberts and Shaun Bellfield undertook their examination.
They were both successfuly and we all congratulate them both on attaining their black belts.
Our grateful thanks from the Doragon Karate Club to Sensei Unel and his wife Debbie for a wonderful weekend of Karate training for us all .
